New Shipman Youth Zone Opens Its Doors in Newham

The brand-new Shipman Youth Zone officially opened last month, marking a significant milestone for the local community in the London Borough of Newham. In association with Wilde Consultants, Charles and Associates provided a Transport Statement and Travel Plan. C&A assessed the travel patterns for service users and staff, advised on parking and servicing requirements, and liaised with the local authority.

After receiving planning permission from Newham Council in June 2022, construction on the new centre began in February 2023. The project involved the complete demolition of the old Shipman Youth Zone, making way for a sustainable, carbon-neutral building designed to be net zero in operation. Using solar panels, battery storage, and an efficient design, the new facility is set to produce more energy than it uses.

This state-of-the-art facility promises to be a cornerstone for youth engagement and family support in the area. It will offer a wide range of amenities to cater to the diverse needs of the community including a custom built sports hall, music studio, a dance studio and a fully equipped kitchen.

In addition to youth services, the centre also houses a Family Hub, providing essential services for babies, toddlers and their families, fostering a supportive environment for all age groups.
