C&A Supports Expansion of Syntech Biofuel Facility

Charles and Associates is pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted for the expansion of the Syntech Biofuel plant at Kingsnorth Industrial Estate on the Hoo Peninsula.

C&A was appointed by Syntech Biofuel to provide highways and transportation consultancy support for the proposed expansion of the fuel manufacturing facility. Our work involved assessing the potential impact of the development on the surrounding highway network, undertaking a collision analysis, and providing design input for a proposed new access from the perimeter road.

The assessment concluded that the expansion will generate minimal additional traffic on the surrounding highway network, and that the development will not give rise to any material impact on the operation or safety of local roads.

The Transport Assessment was prepared in accordance with the current policy framework set out in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) as well as relevant regional and local planning policy. The Kingsnorth Industrial Estate, where Syntech Biofuel currently operates, is identified within Medway Council’s Local Plan under Policy S12 as a strategic employment area suitable for general industrial development and storage/distribution warehousing.

Syntech Biofuel produces the largest volume of commercial biofuel in the UK for the transport and logistics sectors. The expansion will support the continued growth of sustainable fuel production, with biofuel expected to be used by construction vehicles working on the Lower Thames Crossing project.

The approved development includes the construction of a 1,600 sq m production building and associated infrastructure that will convert waste cooking oil into advanced smart biofuel – a low-carbon alternative to conventional diesel. Additional infrastructure will include new processing tanks, electric generators, landscaping, and biodiversity enhancements as part of the wider development.

C&A is proud to have supported this project, which contributes to both sustainable fuel innovation and regional economic development, while ensuring that transport impacts on the local network remain minimal.
