Charles & Associates Consulting Engineers (C&A) have helped Antidote Projects, creators of carbon neutral pubs and restaurants, achieve planning permission to refurbish and reopen The Oak and Ivy Pub in Hawkhurst, Kent.
The transport team at C & A provided transport planning and highway design advice. A full Transport Assessment was prepared for the application with existing and proposed traffic generation, parking justification, a Road Safety Audit and Swept Path Analysis for the site. This addressed comments from the highways officers at Kent County Council and planning officers at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
The proposals will bring a historic pub building back into use with a focus on sustainability, as the pub will grow produce and recycle food waste on the site, reducing the need for external deliveries. There will also be suitable cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points to promote sustainable travel.
The Oak & Ivy proposals will create a food-led destination pub with a no-dig kitchen garden and farm shop set within 5 acres of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near the village of Hawkhurst in Kent.
No-dig farming aims for minimal disturbance of the soil, so natural relationships can flourish between organisms, preserving the overall structure of the earth and leading to improved plant growth.
We look forward to watching the progress of The Oak and Ivy and can’t wait for the grand opening!
