C&A supports Spitfire Green Development

C&A has provided specialist transport, flood risk and drainage support to Barratt David Wilson Homes for a major residential development at New Haine Road, Manston, in Thanet.

Thanet District Council granted hybrid planning permission in 2022 for the delivery of 500 new homes at the site, alongside associated infrastructure and works and it is now nearing completion.

C&A’s multidisciplinary input has supported the project across a range of key planning considerations. As part of the transport and sustainable travel, C&A was involved in the design and delivery of active travel routes, new bus stops, and toucan crossings, supporting connectivity, sustainable travel and safe movement for pedestrians and cyclists.

Our Infrastructure team prepared a flood risk assessment and Surface Water Strategy.  A range of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS ) features including swales, permeable paving, attenuation basins and ponds were incorporated into the surface water drainage strategy. These features help to improve the quality of surface water runoff before it infiltrates to ground via deep-bored soakaways.

As the development progresses and new residents begin to occupy the homes, C&A will continue to provide support through the site’s Travel Plan, helping to encourage sustainable travel choices and support the development’s ongoing transport objectives.

The project highlights C&A’s ability to provide integrated technical advice throughout the planning and delivery of major residential developments, from initial planning considerations through to the occupation phase.
