C&A have successfully assisted Brighton & Hove City Council and Project Centre Ltd in planning a major sustainable transport scheme, which was approved by the council’s Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee.

Valley Gardens is a busy area of Brighton city centre where the A23 London to Brighton road meets the A259 coastal route. Phases 1 and 2 of Valley Gardens have introduced new walking and cycling routes, improved provision for buses, and created new green space for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The proposed Phase 3 of the Valley Gardens project will link the improvements already completed with Brighton’s iconic seafront. The existing Palace Pier roundabout will be replaced with a signalised junction, incorporating better crossings for pedestrians and cyclists in line with the latest guidance. The Old Steine road will be realigned, and new bus stops will be installed.

C&A carried out extensive microsimulation modelling using the Paramics Discovery environment. The modelling reflects updated traffic flows, bus services, signals and restrictions and has helped officers and councillors to understand the traffic impact of the proposals. Various layout options were tested through the modelling exercise, working closely with BHCC technical officers. C&A also carried out a business case appraisal and provided input to the environmental assessment of the scheme.Vg3 Thumb V1
